A successful Liederabend series with Malcolm Martineau

Mojca Erdmann’s 2014 has so far been highlighted by three Liederabenden with renowned pianist Malcolm Martineau in Strasbourg, Graz, and Frankfurt. The program, “Strauss and More,” was met with acclaim in all three cities at the onset of Strauss’s 150th birth-year.

Austria’s Kleine Zeitung hailed the German soprano’s “exceptional evening of songs,” going on to add that “Mojca Erdmann’s delicate, slender soprano was technically supreme that led her evenly and almost without vibrato through all registers. But rather than show off the quality of her voice, she told simple yet expressive stories. Her success was also so impressive because of her nuanced presentation with clear diction.” Also in Graz, the Kronen Zeitung cited Erdmann’s unaccompanied songs by Aribert Reimann as “the brilliant highlights of the evening.”

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote, “You were only too happy to float ‘on angels’ wings’ in [Strauss’s ‘Ich Schwebe’], and Mendelssohn’s ‘Auf Flügeln des Gesanges’ as sung by Mojca Erdmann was a beautiful siren’s melodic call that to some extent passed into nirvana.”

Mojca’s next appearances take place in Tokyo with the NHK Symphony Orchestra January 25 and 26.
