Beethoven’s Fidelio in Bremen and Bonn

This week, Mojca Erdmann joins conductor Paavo Järvi for three concert performances of Beethoven’s Fidelio. The composer’s only opera, in which a woman dons a man’s guise to rescue her imprisoned husband, is heard at Musikfest Bremen on September 25 and Beethovenfest Bonn on September 27 and 29. Starring opposite Cécile Perrin as Leonore and Burkhard Fritz as Florestan, Mojca portrays Marzelline, the daughter of Florestan’s prison guard who mistakenly falls in love with Leonore. She sings, among other moments in the opera, the work’s iconic quartet “Mir ist so wunderbar.”
