Mojca sings Zaide in Reutlingen

Returning to the title role in Mozart’s unfinished opera, Mojca Erdmann stars in the composer’s Zaide with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen in a concert performance on October 6. Swedish conductor Ola Rudner leads the cast, which also includes Julian Prégardien as Gomatz, Paul Armin Edelmann as Allazim, Peter Mazalan as Osmin, and Leif Aruhn-Solén as Soliman. Linking text written by Italo Calvino will be read by Austrian actress Julia Stemberger.

This Mozartean rarity has become a role for which the German soprano is now renowned: “An excellent cast gave performances of equal dramatic and vocal strength. Mojca Erdmann’s piercingly sweet Zaide…stood out,” wrote the Financial Times of her Salzburg Festival debut in the role in 2006. She also recorded selections from the work as part of her debut album on Deutsche Grammophon, Mozart’s Garden.
