Mojca brings Berg concert aria “Der Wein” to Frankfurt’s Alte Oper

Soprano Mojca Erdmann sings Alban Berg’s concert aria for soprano and orchestra “Der Wein” at the Alte Oper, Frankfurt January 19 and 20. Drawing its text from the French symbolist poet Charles Baudelaire, “Der Wein” bears resemblances to Berg’s opera Lulu, which was being composed simultaneously, in its allusions to dance music and its use of the saxophone. Indeed, this spring, Mojca makes her role debut as Lulu at the Berlin Staatsoper. For Mojca’s Frankfurt performances, the Austrian conductor Michael Gielen leads the hr-Sinfonieorchester in Berg’s “Der Wein,” Strauss’s tone poem Don Juan, and Schumann’s First Symphony, “Spring.”
